NMJ Lovers | Alec & Tahlia

Seven and a half years on, Tahlia and Alec made their promise of forever a reality at Maroondah Reservoir Park in Healesville. Their love story began at the age of 15 and 16 at an exam party and has grown into a love with endless support. Alec caught on to Tahlias clues, being a long-time lover of NMJ and designed a beautiful Pear Signature Solitaire alongside our bespoke team. 

Join us as Alec and Tahlia share more about how their surprise picnic proposal unfolded, what marriage means to them and what they know about love. 

 

Let's go back to the beginning, how did you meet?

We met through friends at the age of 15 and 16 at an exam party and started officially dating a year later. We have been best friends since the day we met and celebrated seven and a half years of being together shortly before becoming engaged in November 2021. 

 

You recently got engaged, congratulations! Can you tell us a little bit about the proposal?

Thank you! The proposal took place at the beautiful Maroondah reservoir park in Healesville. A surprise picnic was set up and the talented Joss Jensen  photography captured the special moment from a far. We spent the day at a lovely winery out for lunch beforehand where Tahlia thought it was going to happen, but she was wrong! Later on, I told Tahlia to hop in the car, she had no clue where we were going. The lead up was full of nerves and excitement which quickly vanished when everything came together seamlessly and the promise of forever became our reality. 

Tahlia, what was your reaction when you saw your engagement piece for the first time?

I was and am absolutely in love with my engagement ring from NMJ! The piece is timeless and elegant. I am obsessed with its delicacy and intricate detail. I constantly stare at my finger and pinch myself that this work of art is mine and was designed specifically for me by my beautiful fiancé. 

 

What does marriage mean to you both?

Marriage to us means a promise to love and support each other through all waves of life. Being together from a young age we value that a soulmate is someone who helps you grow and brings out the best version of you. The most wonderful part about love to us is having someone to share all of life's moments with rain, hail or shine. 

 

Alec, we’d love to know why you chose NMJ to help create the perfect engagement ring for Tahlia. How was your experience and how did you end up with the solitaire ring that you did?

Tahlia had followed NMJ for a few years via Instagram and not so subtly sent many of her dream rings to me in that time. When the time came to propose it was a clear choice. There had been two ring styles Tahlia had regularly browsed. In the end I decided to go with a pear shape as I felt it was more unique and suited her perfectly. The Bespoke Team at NMJ walked me through every step and made me feel very included in the design process. They brought our dream ring to life. I could not be more happy with the final piece and am in awe of the talent your design team possess. 

What are you most looking forward to on your special day? Have you decided on a particular wedding style?

We are most looking forward to officially being husband and wife. We are yet to plan our wedding but are hoping for something intimate and adventurous! 

At NMJ, at the heart of everything we do is love. Tough question, but tell us, what do you know about love?

Definitely a tough question. Although we are still young and have a lot to learn, we know that love is both complex and limitless in kindness, generosity and personal sacrifice. It is a journey that is constantly evolving and we couldn’t be more thankful to be on it together, walking through life step by step knowing we have each other to always be there.
